Ok guys, i just picked up a hella 500ff driving lamp kit, and now im trying to figure out how to wire it all up so i can put them on once this rain stops. I dont really know much about electronics and wiring so all the advice yall have for me will help! So I understand that - Red - Positive lead to battery Blue - Ground Green - Power for switch But, I dont know what the yellow (trigger for relay) or black ( output to lamps) are for. I only want to run these with a switch, not off of my high beams or anything. What do I need to do?
Ok, i think its making sense now. In my case, I have different colored wires, but the yellow (trigger for relay), is what I run to the switch to connect the switch to the lights, the green (power for switch), I run to a hot wire (battery?), and then i need to pick up some wire to run to ground the switch. What size wire would be good to run for a ground?
ok, so that "yellow" would connect up to the relay in port 86 and then to the center pin of your toggle switch. the green should connect up to power on your toggle, and the black from the hella's will connect to the port 87 on the relay. atleast a 12g for ground. 10 if you can.
Alright, that makes perfect sense to me! ill pick up some 10g wire to ground my switch and i should be good to go!
remember to have your grounds wired up and connected to a ground source before you begin wiring the hot. if you cross a hot, it will make the wire literally glow red hot, and don't grab em w/ your hand. i learned that the hard way... good luck! i'll keep watchin incase you encounter some more probs.
That's one way to do it... I had wired my hot (with fuse) in first, went through 3 fuses by the time I was done Instead of wiring straight to the switch, I wired mine into the highbeam wire on my headlights. Then ran a separate hot wire from the switch to the lights themselves. This lets them come on with high beams or with the switch.
