    If you have an auto transmission that has a 3rd gear setting before D, it will start from a stop in 1st. 1st and 2nd are just that.. 1st and 2nd

    Exactly. If you have the standard 4 speed, your gears are 1, 2, D, and OD. When it's in D, the vehicle works as it should, going THROUGH the gears, up and down, as needed. When you start in 2, that is all you have, from start to stop to stop and go, you just have 2. Thats why many people, when towing a load that is fragile (moving your belongings) its recommended to tow in 2, so you don't have the herky jerky shift.

    Well heck fare. Learned sumn new. I knew u could race from 1 and shift out yourself but never knew 2 was only that lol

    I have never tried to start out in second just assumed it still started out in first and stopped

    That's what I've thought for 15yrs. Funny thing is when I did shift to D it didn't feel like it downshifted. I'll have to try a few more times and see if I can find out what's goin on
