i have dual 2.25 straights running down the passenger side and dumping in front of the tire right now , but i've been thinking about putting a y pipe on and merging them into single 3, my question is which would be better?

3" would be a lot more free flowing

alright, i didn't read very carefully, i thought you meant 3 from headers back. ... but i still think that looks and sound will be the biggest changes, 3" is a lot less constricted than 2.25" so it'll be louder.

2 pipes with a width of 2.25 inches have a total area of 8 square inches. A single 3" pipe has a total area of 7 square inches. So you can flow more with the duals you have now.
