So i did searching and i found a 97-03 motor/regulator swap but not an 04-08 thread so here it goes. So my truck is an 04 and me and a friend took a trip to autozone and he pressed the window switch down and it was fine then up and that's when it happened. The window shot up pretty fast and there was a "pop" sound and the window fell all the way down. It turns out it wasn't just the motor that was shot but the assembly as well. so heres how to replace the whole window assembly. Step #1: Behind the door handle there is a latch that you pry open with a flat head Step #2:Remove the two screws behind that(8mm) Step #3: Pry the window and lock pad off and disconnect the harnesses Step #4: Right below the hatch there is a bolt holding the panel on(10mm) Step #5: At the bottom of the door there are two screws(6mm) Step #6: Remove the speaker cover Step #7: Remove the 4 screws holding the speaker(5.5mm) Step #8: Disconnect speaker Step #9: After everything has been disconnected pull up on the door panel and it should come off, there will be a giant plastic cover over everything which you'll need to take off. Step #10: Push the window all the way up and tape it like so to keep it up Step #11: There are two vertical slots on either side of the panel that provide access to the two clamps which hold the window(10mm) Step #12: after the clamps have been loosened it's time to take the assembly out. There are five bolts, four that hold the "tracts" and one in the middle that holds the motor. You should be able to collapse the assembly and take it out of the giant hole of the panel. Don't forget to disconnect the motor from the harness Step #13: get you a new assembly. I picked mine up at the local Ford dealer for just about $132 Step #14: spread the assembly out like an "H" making sure the motor is on the left. Also make sure the threads to the bolts are facing up and it's not upside down. Step #15: Get eveything lined up and tighten the bolts down and plug the motor into the harness Step #16: plug the window switch harness in, turn the key on and roll up the window up all the way until the clamps cover the glass and tighten the two bolts completely. Put everything back together and you should have a working window
Looks like I get to rip the door panel off of mine to see wtf is going on. We're an hour from the house and my buddy rolls the windown down to let some of the heat out when we get read to head home and something pops... then the window won't roll back up. The motor is running but the window doesn't move. Sounds like something in there is moving though. I've about formed the opinion that this gen is the worst truck Ford has put out in years. I've never had as many issues with a vehicle as I have with this one.
