so i've ran some figures and i think i can afford to pick up a new car pretty soon

going to replace the escort, looking for a 5 spd, 25+mpg, somewhat sporty ( i want to enjoy driving it) and probably within $7500 range, anybody have any good experiences with cars like this?

found this focus listed today and really like it, but won't be able to look at it till next weekend

I hear the sohc focus is shat. My neighbor is a mechanic and says hes replaced the motors in a lot of focus' with the sohc. I personally have had no experience with them. I got my jetta for under 4k with a 137k miles, it has the vr6 with the 6speed, I got the 24v with 200hp and im getting about 30 to the gallon. And its fast, fun and still kind of sporty/luxurious. Im sure you could find one within your price range. VWs are a pain to work on, they need some special tools here and there but totally worth it IMO. Its a another obsessable brand of car ha ha.

Okay, being a HUGE VW fan, as bad as it pains me to admit this, the Focus is more then likely the more reliable of the two choices. The Focus would handle and perform like the VW, but if you're wanting something that you can just get in and worry the least about starting, the Focus is your best bet.

It seriously pains me to say that, but it's the truth. I still love VW's, but they have their problems, and it's usually problems the average car owner wants no part of.

every car, make and model has a chance of pooping on you. Find a car you like and that is in the best condition and that appears the best maintained and cared for and it increases your chances of having a long lasting car. But Every car no matter how well built can have issues. just my $.02

Sort of not the case with a VW. My wife babys her cars, and we still had plenty of problems out of the ones she's had. The best one we've ever owned was a 2000 Beetle GLS Turbo. Only minimal problems, but they were all taken care of by VW under warranty. After that we drove it trouble free up until an ass bag in a Sunfire t-boned my wife who was 6 months pregnant and totaled it. It still had the original factory brakes on the front at 135K miles. :peace:

That Mazda 3 will be a solid car. :birgits_tiredcoffee
