Here is a quick How-To explaining the steps for Tie Rod End replacement. This is an easy mechanical fix for the everyday DIY enthusiast.

    First, the tools needed:
Impact gun is optional as it helps w/ removing lugs easier. DO NOT USE on tie rod ends! I believe the socket is a 9/16 deep. Not pictured are 2 jacks and a bottle jack.

First elevate vehicle, support properly, and remove tire.

Second, back the locking nut off the tie rod end about an inch.
spray paint the gap between the locknut and tie rod end.

you do this to get your alignment w/in a very close ballpark enabling you to drive and get it done proper.

Next, remove tie rod end from knuckle.

it isn't necessary to rent the tool from autozone (tie rod end remover looks like a pitch fork). i have always torn my boots when using that so that is why you see the 5lb hand sledge in the tools photo. Back the nut almost all the way off, then tap the bolt w/ the hammer. it should break free from the knuckle. remove the nut completely and back the tie rod end off.

    Install new tie rod end.

Pictured below is how your wrenches go to tighten the tie rod end. If you notice, there are 2 pictures w/ the wrenches in different places in each picture. this is to show you the different ways of securing the tie rod end so that your tie rod shaft doesnt spin when tightening.

this image shows the tie rod shaft being secured while tightening the locking nut.

and w/ all bolts/nuts that are in constant vibration, use thread lock.

I hope this helps those that are needing to swap theirs out, but have been timid in tackling this project. You can get this done w/in 2 hrs, and that includes adult beverage intake. :peace:

Any questions please shoot me a PM or ask here and i'll try to keep up w/ it. Thanks!
